It’s day 10 of my journey to curb my drinking — 1/3 of the way through the month and program. It actually doesn’t seem like it’s been that long nor has it been especially painful to go without drinking, other than simply saying “no” when the temptation strikes.
I must say that I’ve been enjoying not being drunk in the evenings. Prior to starting this journey, I’d come-home every night after work, and the first thing I’d do was bust-out some booze and start drinking. Usually, within 5 minutes of walking in the door.
Then, I’d keep drinking until bedtime, and over the course of the night, I wouldn’t do much of anything besides watch TV, and to make it even worse, I didn’t even remember what I was watching the next day!
For the past 10 days, I’ve been doing the daily 30 Day Sobriety Solution content each night as soon as I get home, and then maybe working on a few other little things, and then enjoying watching a movie or TV (and remembering it!) Actually, I’m embarking on a mission to finally watch all of the Stargate SG-1 episodes — all 10 seasons — so perhaps that has replaced my drinking addiction, but at least SG-1 is fun and not overly detrimental to my life! 🙂
And, the final “I’m changing” moment was tonight, on the way home, I decided to stop and grab a burger for dinner. In order to hit the drive-through, I had to turn-into the same turn I have taken hundreds of times to get liquor. The difference this time, is that I didn’t get liquor and as I drove by the liquor store, burger in hand, I felt no desire to stop-in and pick anything up.
It felt kinda good…
